Program to promote public awareness about IP launched

About one thousand persons, mainly from research institutes, universities and enterprises, will attend training courses on intellectual property.

This is set forth in Prime Minister Decision No. 1062/QD-TTg of June 14, approving the program on intellectual asset development during 2016-2020.

The program aims to raise public awareness about intellectual assets during the period of deep international economic integration. It also sets the goals of assisting the practical application of at least 50 innovations/utility solutions of Vietnam; supporting the protection, management and development of intellectual property rights for at least 70 products bearing geographical names. At least 100 science and technologically enterprises and organizations will be supported in establishing and developing intellectual asset management and development models, while all Prime Minister-approved national products will be assisted in intellectual property protection registration at home and abroad.

To reach the above-mentioned goals, the program will support the design and development of search engines and information packages on intellectual property.

The program will also support the registration for protection, management and safeguard of intellectual assets, prioritizing scientific and technological outcomes, key products, national products, product designs and plant varieties.

At the same time, the program will focus on conducting trade promotion activities for Vietnamese intellectual assets at home and abroad to improve their value and competitiveness.

Funds for program implementation will be raised from various sources, including the state budget, enterprises’ contributions and other lawful funding sources.

This new regulation takes effect on June 14 and replaces Decision No. 2204/QD-TTg of December 6, 2010.-
